A DORNOCH charity shop is supporting the work of the local branch of armed forces charity SSAFA (The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen’s and Families Association).

St Finnbarr’s Charity Shop in Dornoch has donated £1000 to SSAFA Sutherland.

The shop’s team leader Caroline Barnes presented a cheque to SSAFA Sutherland president Major General Patrick Marriott recently with SSAFA Sutherland chairman William Sutherland in attendance.

Major General Marriott said: “This is a wonderful donation by the dedicated team from St Finnbarr’s Charity Shop.

“SSAFA Sutherland’s small band of volunteers do amazing work in helping needy ex-service people and their families across Sutherland, and we shall ensure that these valuable funds are used directly, this year, to provide help to our local clients where it is needed.

“This money was raised in Sutherland and will stay in Sutherland. We thank St Finnbarr’s Charity Shop most sincerely for thinking of us and our important work."

SSAFA Sutherland chairman William Sutherland said: "SSAFA's Sutherland branch – a small team of volunteers – is dedicated to helping needy members of the armed forces community, serving and retired, and their family members here in Sutherland. SSAFA caseworkers visit clients in their homes coast-to-coast, offering support in various ways, including direct financial support.

"Like all SSAFA branches, SSAFA Sutherland must raise its own funds – so St Finnbarr’s generous donation has given SSAFA Sutherland a massive boost."

Mrs Barnes said: "SSAFA continues to provide excellent and vital work supporting our veterans and those currently serving in our armed forces.

“St Finnbarr's is thrilled to support such an important charity. Along with our donation we pray SSAFA will continue to be a lifeline for those who, by serving in our armed services, have worked for justice, freedom, and peace.

"We are very grateful to our generous donors, volunteers, and customers for enabling us to support SSAFA and other fantastic local charities in this way."
