A TEXAS Scramble golf competition held at Royal Dornoch Golf Club on March 6 raised £410 for Caithness and Sutherland Women’s Aid (CASWA).

The event was organised by four students on the Professional Golf and Golf Management course at the University of the Highlands and Islands' Dornoch campus.

The Texas Scramble was organised by Parneet Kaur, Abbie Talboys, Rhianna Mackay and Francesca Brimm.

Parneet Kaur, Abbie Talboys, Rhianna Mackay and Francesca Brimm organised the competition as part of an event planning module on their course.

They chose CASWA as the beneficiary because they were familiar with the Gift Project, an initiative that provides gift boxes containing essentials such as clothing, toys and toiletries, to women supported by CASWA and their families.

CASWA provides specialist support to women, children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse.

The students invited CASWA to give a short talk about the charity's work at the end of the golf competition, in which 30 golf club members and students took part in small teams.

CASWA deputy manager Emma Fraser , who attended the event with a colleague, said: “We would like to thank everyone involved in the event and acknowledge the fantastic amount raised on the day which will make a huge difference to the work that we do locally.

“We would particularly like to thank Parneet, Abbie, Rhianna and Francesca for their work in delivering such a fantastic event and selecting CASWA as the charity beneficiary."

Parneet said: “We are grateful to the participants, team members of CASWA, UHI and the Royal Dornoch Golf Club for making the day such a success."

She also thanked gift and clothing shop Dornoch Jail for its donation of a raffle prize.
