Lairg’s annual Winterfest returns with its own extra special brand of Christmas magic on Saturday, December 9.

Now in its seventh year, Winterfest is a wonderful family day out guaranteed to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.

The day starts at 12pm with church bells ringing to open the festive parade. Reindeer from Cairngorm Reindeer Centre will pull Santa’s sleigh along the Main Street to the community centre where all the activities are based.

Santa Claus will be in his grotto in the community centre to greet children from 12.30pm-4pm (£3 entry). Children can also meet his reindeer at the rear of the centre throughout the afternoon.

The Christmas Craft Fair returns with local traders and artisans selling their wares in the community centre – perfect for picking up some unique Christmas gifts and supporting local businesses.

Also in the community centre will be a café selling refreshments and home baking provided by Lairg Crofters Show.

The family funfair and hot food van will be outside and children’s entertainment will be provided by HopScotch Magic in the school gym (free admission).

The Grand Raffle will be drawn at 4pm and the day will end at 4.30pm.

Kaye Hurrion, chairperson of Lairg & District Community Initiatives (LDCI), the organisers of Winterfest, said: “We are delighted to be able to hold Winterfest once again this year.

"Winterfest has been made possible by generous donations from a number of local businesses who have either donated to the event or have donated to our raffle which has some fantastic prizes.

"This is a really important event in Lairg for our community and our surrounding neighbours, and without their support we would really struggle to host the day.

"We’d also like to thank all the volunteers who help out, and we look forward to welcoming everyone on the day.”
