THE A82 in Inverness is set to be closed for four nights in a row while work on stage two of the West Link project reaches a critical phase, Highland Council has announced.
The busy trunk road will be closed at Tomnahurich for four consecutive nights from March 9 to 12 inclusive.
The closures, which will run from 7pm to 6am, will allow engineers to install a control system for the Tomnahurich swing bridge.
The closure will be between the General Booth Road junction with the A82 and the roundabout to the east of Tomnahurich swing bridge.
A diversion will be signed for all vehicles except for site vehicles, service buses and the emergency services – which will still be allowed access.
Vehicle access to the Premier Inn and the Beefeater will be maintained from the west. Access for pedestrians will not be affected by the road closure but there may be delays while the bridge is opened.
Motorists are also being warned to expect possible disruption during the day time, as a 10mph speed limit and 7.5 tonne weight restriction in effect (with accompanying HGV diversion).
The HGV diversion will be removed on March 13 when the new roundabout is expected to open to all traffic.
General Booth Road will be closed for 17 days from 6am on Wednesday, March 18 to 6pm on Friday, April 3.
The closure is from the junction with the A82 to the access at Kings Golf Course.
"This is to allow the safe installation of kerbs and surfacing while maintaining access for pedestrians and cyclists," said a council spokesman. "There will be signed diversion for all other road users."
"Due to the road widths, access cannot be maintained for bus services or emergency services which will need to use the diversion.
"Advance warning signs will be in place and the council’s contractors are notifying local householders, businesses and organisations of the potential disruption."
