The former chairwoman of Kinlochbervie Community Council has spoken of her disappointment that the group has fallen by the wayside.

But Rev Andrea Boyes, minister of Durness and Kinlochbervie parish, said she was optimistic that the council would be resurrected later in the year.

Highland Council recently invited nominations to fill places on community councils across the region which did not have enough serving members to continue.

Kinlochbervie Community Council was one of three across the Highlands that failed to attract enough nominations – half its maximum membership.

There are eight places to be filled at Kinlochbervie.

Rev Boyes told the Northern Times: “I am disappointed that Kinlochbervie Community Council has not continued for the present time as it was unable to elect enough members.

“Yet there is always a time and a season for growth and change. I believe that there will be a new opportunity to form a community council later in the year and I hope those who are willing to serve with a passion for the community in the north-west, will come forward.

“There were recently three new individuals who attended the meetings.”

In her chairwoman’s report last September, Rev Boyes said: “There has been much we have worked together on as a community council.”

She thanked members for their “support, time and energy”.

Highland Council said that its next interim community council elections would take place on Thursday, September 29, with the notice of election to be published on Monday, August 8.
