Dedication and commitment of outgoing Fèis Chataibh committee members recognised

Tribute has been paid to a Golspie family for the work they have put in to support and promote Fèis Chataibh.

Chairperson of the fèis management committee Becky Shaw took the opportunity to publicly acknowledge their commitment and dedication at the organisation’s online AGM last week.

She thanked them for all their efforts in providing traditional music education to young people in the area.

Mrs Shaw also thanked the committee members and volunteers who had worked to re-establish the fèis after a three-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A new committee was elected during the AGM after which a business meeting was held to finalise plans for 2024.

Funding from the Gordonbush Wind Farm Community Fund has made it possible to offer weekly instrument classes for young people..

The first of these – beginners’ guitar sessions with Ethan Walker – will start at the end of January in conjunction with Golspie Youth Action Project.

Keyboard, group work and clarsach classes will also start in the next few weeks, to be followed by fiddle and pipes in the spring.

A one-day fèis will be held on Friday, March 23, the exact location is yet to be decided, but it likely to be in the Kyle of Sutherland area.

And the traditional and hugely popular summer Fèis Week returns to Golspie from Monday to Friday, July 1-5.

Information on how to book the new instrument classes as well as the one-day event and the summer feis will be posted on Feis Chataibh’s Facebook page.
