Female cyclist dies in Caithness accident

Police are appealing for witnesses

Police can confirm one person has died and another has been seriously injured following a collision involving a car and two cyclists on the A99 at Auckengill, Caithness, at around noon yesterday.

A female cyclist died at the scene and a male cyclist was taken to Caithness General Hospital with serious injuries. The female driver of the car was also taken to hospital as a precaution, but is not believed to be seriously injured.

Details of those involved will be released once next of kin have been notified.

Northern Constabulary Collision Investigators from the force's Road Policing Unit are carrying out enquiries into the incident and are appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the area at the relevant time and who may be able to assist with information.
