Culrain pays tribute to the Queen at rousing ceilidh and jubilee lunch in community hall festooned with Union Jacks and bunting

The small Sutherland community of Culrain marked the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in style, with the focus for the celebration being the community hall decorated in Union Jacks and bunting.

Thursday evening saw the lighting of beacons as part of the national celebration of the Queen’s 70 years on the throne.

Young piper Angus Smith played stirring tunes on the pipes before the ceilidh began.

What a night this turned out to be with Highland dancing to the tempo of the Jubilee Ceilidh Band well into the night.

The whirling and spinning of dancers was a delight to behold, ebbing and flowing as the evening progressed.

Local musician Robin Bell played popular tunes accompanied by the enthusiastic serenade of the revellers.

The evening drew to a close with a hearty rendition of “God Save the Queen”.

On the Sunday a jubilee lunch was held, with 50 people and Deputy Lieutenant of Sutherland Christine Mackay attending. This was marked with a Loyal Toast to Her Majesty and saw the wonderful weekend of activities draw to a close.
