FIVE more people have tested positive for the coronavirus across the NHS Highland area.

The region’s cumulative number of confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic rose from 5165 to 5170 when the latest figures were released on Wednesday.

There were 345 positive tests for Covid-19 in Scotland over the past 24 hours – or 1.5 per cent of all people tested during that time period.

Sixty-five people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night. This was down five from Monday.

Of those, six were in intensive care – a figure which was unchanged since the last update.

And no fresh deaths have been reported among those people who tested positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were again no fresh infections in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

NHS Grampian’s total number of cases rose by 27 to 15,248, fuelled in part by Moray’s recent spate of infections.

And the total in NHS Tayside rose by 13, to 14,777.

There have now been 228,423 confirmed cases of the coronavirus across Scotland since the pandemic broke out.

Almost 2.95 million people have now received their first Covid vaccination injection in Scotland, while more than 1.52 million have had their second jag.
