A WARD at Raigmore Hospital has been forced to close to new patients and visitors after an outbreak of Covid-19.

NHS Highland said it had taken the decision to temporarily close Ward 4A in response to "a small number" of coronavirus cases.

A spokesman for the health board said: "Patients are being clinically assessed and monitored with normal in-patient care continuing.

"All appropriate infection prevention and control measures have been put in place. Close contacts have been identified and given appropriate advice and support.

"We have not reached this decision lightly and recognise that this could cause a great deal of concern and anxiety for patients and their loved ones during this time. These measures will be reviewed on a regular basis.

"If your visit is essential please contact the ward your relative or loved one is in, and the staff will support you with arrangements. Please do not visit any of our hospitals or care home settings if you or anyone else in your household has tested positive for Covid-19 or has any symptoms.

"It is more important than ever to keep to guidance about distancing, hand washing, and wearing a face covering.

"You can reduce the spread of Covid-19 by taking regular LFD tests and booking a PCR test if you have symptoms."
