A social media post stated: "As a committee we have decided to officially cancel Golspie Gala Week 2021.

"We hope you understand our decision. The health and wellbeing of everyone comes first.

"Hopefully we will have a gala next year and this will be back to normal. Until then, keep safe everyone."

The group added that it was also at this point not accepting any entries to its popular banger derby, but updates would be posted.

However it has held out hope that an event of some sort connected to the gala could take place.

"If circumstances change, we will hopefully be able to put on some socially distanced events." it said.

The Gala Week traditionally takes place in late July and early August.
