Highland councillors have agreed to grant planning consent to the Bettyhill Phase 2 development.

The application was considered by the North Planning Applications Committee at its meeting in Inverness last Tuesday.

Eden Renewables has now been given the green light to add up to 10 turbines with a maximum tip height of 149.9 metres, to the existing two turbines at Bettyhill Common Grazings on the Skelpick Estate.

The scheme will have a combined capacity of up to 49.9mw.

Councillors heard that Eden Renewables had consulted extensively with local communities who were supportive of the development.

The community benefit on offer is equivalent to £5000 per mw generated over the life of the project in addition to a local electricity discount scheme and up to 20 per cent community share ownership through Farr North Community Development Trust.

Councillors unanimously agreed to the wind farm, although Councillor Richard Gale expressed some concerns about the environmental impact.
