Highland Council leader Margaret Davidson attends COP26 to highlight the area's local leadership and innovation

Leader of Highland Council, Cllr Margaret Davidson will be taking part in two events at COP26 to showcase leadership and innovation happening at a local level in Scotland,
Glasgow City Council will be hosting a networking reception in the City Chambers tonight for council leaders and mayors from councils across the UK. At this event there will be an opportunity for invited guests to engage in discussions and highlight how they can provide the leadership required to deliver national climate ambitions.
On Thursday Cllr Davidson will be representing the Highlands during the COP26 Cities, Regions and Built Environment Day.
She will be taking part in an event hosted by COSLA which will consider Scottish Local Government’s role in combating climate change, contributing to a net zero society and delivering locally in support of international climate change targets.
The event will include keynote speeches and local leader roundtables, at which participants will be invited to share local experience.
Cllr Davidson said: “A lot of the delivery of actions to tackle climate change at a local level will be down to local authorities to lead on.
"The sessions I am attending create a space to discuss shared successes and challenges in our journey towards a net zero society and efforts across the built and natural environment to create sustainable communities and deliver low carbon public services.
“I look forward to meeting other leaders and sharing ideas and examples on how best this can be achieved.
"By working together, we can, and will need to do much more so having this chance to build and strengthen our partnerships during COP26 will I hope create a legacy.”
