Funding from Highland Council is encouraging school pupils in east Sutherland try their hand at baking during the October holidays.

Grants secured by Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust (KoSDT) on the back of a successful application to the council's food and grant scheme have allowed the activities to be carried out during the two-week October school holiday period.

The funding has been used to purchase 82 baking kits, one for each child in three local primary schools in the Trust area.

Bonar Bridge, Gledfield and Rosehall each benefitted from the new activity, at a cost of £45 per kit.

The contents included cookie, cake and bread mixes, a baking book, boxed baking kit and a loaf tin - along with Hallowe'en themed cake toppers, cookie cutters and cake trays.

A spokesperson for the Trust said: "This should keep the children occupied over the holidays, at little cost to parents. As can be seen from the photos, the children were absolutely delighted with their kits!"
