THERE are now 180 confirmed coronavirus cases in the Highlands – after a dozen further positive tests came back overnight.

Almost 400 new cases (390) have been recorded across Scotland in the past 24 hours, taking the national total to 6748.

And a further 84 people who tested positive have died – taking the Scottish tally of confirmed coronavirus deaths to 699. These figures are lower than statistics published by the National Records of Scotland (NRS), which include fatalities in hospitals, care homes and homes, and where coronavirus was mentioned on the death certificate. That figure was 962.

But the number of people in intensive care in Scottish hospitals remained almost static (falling one to 195) and the number of people receiving treatment in hospitals fell by 50 to 1748.

In the north of Scotland, there were no new cases in either Eileanan Siar, Shetland or Orkney, but there were 22 further positive tests in Grampian (rising to 357) and an additional 72 in NHS Tayside (which now stands at 898).
