A community coronation picnic held at Brora yesterday has been hailed as “hugely successful”.

More than 500 people from the village and well beyond enjoyed an afternoon of fun and activities at Fascally Park. Visitors were present from as far afield as the USA, Brazil and Australia.

Local groups including Clyne Heritage Society and the Rotary Club of East Sutherland linked together to organise the event.

A successful application for a micro grant was made to Brora Community Council and generous individual donations were also received, thus ensuring that admission to the picnic and activities were free of charge.

There were stalls, a bouncy castle, music, dance, ice-cream, fun and games. Adults and children dressed up for the occasion as Kings and Queens or Princes and Princesses.

A highlight of the afternoon was a community conga which was joined by hundreds of people present.

Local Rotarian Alistair Risk who helped organise the event said; “I have seldom seen so much good will and enjoyment in Brora probably the last time was the late Queens Golden Jubilee."
