Since then more than 500 communities in Scotland have taken ownership of lands and buildings and Scotland is seen as a pioneer in this field.

Community Land Scotland has been awarded £215,510 along with support from the Scottish Government to deliver the project, which will collect histories and archives from community landowners across Scotland and share the inspiring stories.

Caroline Clark, the National Lottery Heritage Fund Director for Scotland, said: “The 100th anniversary year is the perfect opportunity to ensure that we capture the stories of the ordinary people who brought about extraordinary changes to ownership of the land and buildings their community valued most.”
