Development group Go Golspie bought the hall following a £147,900 award from the Scottish Land Fund. Members of the public also made funding pledges.

A post on the group’s Facebook page thanked everyone who had supported the project.

It read: “This is only the first step and now the work starts on making the hall a fantastic venue for a wide range of events.”

Go Golspie is now asking anyone interested in becoming part of a Fountain Road Hall management committee, to get in touch.

At Golspie Community Council’s December meeting, chairman Ian Sutherland, a Go Golspie board member, said the purchase was a “game changer” for the district.

Social media users also voiced their delight with Nikki Harrison describing it as the “best news ever”.
