Volunteers travelled from as far as Golspie and Invergordon last Sunday in a community effort to help clear the Carbisdale Woods walking and mountain biking trails that had become overgrown in recent years.

Culrain Hall committee had teamed up with Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust, Forestry and Land Scotland, and the Highland Council to bring the network of forest trails back to life.

To help kick start the project, they had put out a call for volunteers to assist with clearing the various trails.

Anne Henderson, secretary of Culrain Hall committe, said: “We had around 40 volunteers on the day, the youngest was nine and the oldest was over 80. A brilliant result.

"The difference to the trails is incredible, some parts were almost impassable and very difficult to follow if you were unfamiliar with the terrain.

"Once the new signage is in place, locals and visitors alike will be able to enjoy this fantastic resource. A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered including Liz Cormack who made the tea and served the cakes, which were generously sponsored by Chris Bowden of Heaven Bikes in Bonar Bridge.”

David Watson from Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust (KoSDT) added: “It was fantastic to see so many people give up their own time to help Culrain Hall committee revitalise a valuable community asset. KoSDT will continue to work with the community of Culrain, Forestry and Land Scotland, and the Highland Council to ensure that local people and visitors can benefit from engaging with nature, in such a beautiful environment, for many years to come.”
