The last remaining member of the former Sutherland County Council’s Road Surveyor’s staff, who has given nearly 40 years’ service to Sutherland, has retired.

Michael MacKintosh has worked for the Sutherland County Council, Highland Regional Council (1975) and Highland Council (1995) and then in the 2002 formation of Environmental and Technical Services Department, ending his local government career in the Council’s Capital Project Design Unit based in the Sutherland Drummuie Office.

Near 40 former and present colleagues gathered and reminisced in the Brora Golf Clubhouse when they presented parting gifts to Michael (Brora) who in 1973 joined the County Surveyor’s staff as an apprentice technician and rose to become an HNC qualified road engineer.

Present on the occasion were four Department Heads he worked under during his employment, Dave Cotton, Colin Mackenzie, Colin Howell and Garry Smith, who all spoke highly of Michael’s legacy to the Highland’s highway infrastructure.
