Clyne Heritage Society announces appointment of community engagement officer as start set to be made on its new £4.5m heritage hub and visitor centre

Clyne Heritage Society is delighted to announce the appointment of Golspie resident Aileen Ogilvie as its new Learning and Community Engagement Officer in a post funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, writes society chairman Dr Nick Lindsay.

With an MA (with Distinction) in Contemporary Art & Archaeology and some 20 years’ experience in community learning, Aileen was the unanimous choice of the society's management board from a very strong UK-wide field for this new and exciting position.

Currently centre manager at Lairg & District Learning Centre, Aileen brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to this important role, which will play a crucial part in further fostering connections between the local community in Brora, and the wider parish of Clyne, and the society, as it moves towards establishing its own new community heritage centre and museum in Brora.

With a background in heritage education and community outreach, fluent in Gaelic with also a musical flair, Aileen is well-equipped to lead initiatives that will enrich the understanding and appreciation of Clyne's rich history and cultural heritage.

Her passion for storytelling and commitment to inclusivity will ensure that the society's educational programmess are engaging and accessible to all members of the community.

In her role, Aileen will work with local schools, community groups, and stakeholders to deliver the society’s activity plan ahead of its move to its new centre at the Old Clyne School. The redevelopment of the site is due to start this spring.

She will develop innovative learning experiences and events that will showcase the unique heritage of the Brora area. From guided tours to interactive workshops, she will work to create opportunities for people of all ages and from all walks of life to connect with their heritage in meaningful ways.

Aileen said: "I am really looking forward to working with Clyne Heritage Society and contributing to its important work in preserving and sharing the history of the Brora area. I look forward to working with the community to create engaging educational experiences that will foster a deeper appreciation of our heritage."

Sad to be leaving her team and board at Lairg & District Learning Centre, but excited to be given this opportunity, Aileen will take up her new role in mid-March.
