The chairman of Clyne Heritage Society is appealing for sponsorship as he approaches the final leg of a 12-month running challenge.
Dr Nick Lindsay has been running throughout the year to raise cash for the society’s 2023 community archaeological excavation of Bronze/Iron Age roundhouses at Aultcraggie, West Clyne, Brora.
He has so far raised £235 via JustGiving and is now approaching his target of running 1000 miles between January 1 to December 31.
Dr Lindsay said: "I have just broken 900 miles of my clearly 'bonkers' self-challenge of running 1000 miles for the year.
"Now that it looks that I might actually complete it, I thought I would try and raise some funds for Clyne Heritage Society’s planned 2023 community archaeological excavation of up to three Bronze/Iron Age roundhouses at Aultcraggie, West Clyne.
"The fantastic total of 42 volunteers, many with little or no digging experience, came along and spent 142-person days at our Strath Brora dig in June this year. Without exception, everyone had a great time, learned new skills and made new friends."
The total cost of next year's fieldwork for 12 days is £9936, with a further estimated £9234 needed for post-excavation analysis of any finds made.
The group also plan to engage the services of a professional archaeology company who plan, organise, direct and supply the required equipment.
Dr Lindsay added: "We hope that if we can raise the funds, it will give people in the community, who have a thirst for archaeology – including youngsters – an opportunity to join in.
"Anything we raise by our own funding such as this shows external funders that there is goodwill in the community for this to go ahead, so it would be fantastic if people would consider sponsoring me."
