POLICE recovered cannabis plants and buds when they attended a cottage in Sutherland after an ambulance crew had been called to the property to help a youth with cuts to his wrists.

Twenty-one year-old Reece Holmes admitted producing cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to supply at Cottage 2, Pitgrudy on November 10 last year.

Sheriff Margaret Neilson was told at Inverness Sheriff Court today that Holmes had no previous offences and the ambulance crew found him with significant cuts and blood on the floor and walls.

Depute fiscal Robert Weir said police identified a strong smell of cannabis and two small plants were found, a tick list, cash totalling £145 and cannabis buds on the floor.

Paramedics took Holmes to Raigmore Hospital and they carried out a search of the property.

The fiscal said he later told police he had moved in with his girlfriend and he bought enough to grow for personal use – about three grams per day.

The fiscal said the plants had a value of between £500 and £100 and if the buds were grown they could produce more than £31,000 worth of cannabis.

Sentence was deferred for reports until January 10.
