Buyers defy Storm Babet for North Country Cheviot sale at Dingwall Mart

BUYERS flocked to Dingwall despite adverse weather for a mart sale which saw 4465 breeding and feeding sheep change hands.

The annual sale of North Country Cheviot ewes and gimmers came against as storm clouds loomed for some with the much-heralded Babet hitting parts of the Highlands.

But there was an upbeat assessment at Dingwall and Highlands Mart whi h said later: "“Part one of Dingwall’s ‘Great Two-Day Cheviot Sale’ saw a huge ringside of buyers flock to Dingwall, despite the adverse weather conditions reaping havoc all over the north of Scotland.

"Correct ewes cashed in at solid levels with many buyers heading home empty-handed.”

Cheviot Gimmers (691) averaged £111.61 and sold to £220 gross from Wester Muckernich, Tore.

Cheviot Correct ewes (2,123) averaged £82.82 and sold to £148 gross from Croick Estate, Ardgay.

Cheviot Broken mouth ewes (331) averaged £61.89 and sold to £102 gross from Upper Gartally, Drumnadrochit.

Cheviot Feeder ewes (494) averaged £59.22 and sold to £106 gross from Upper Gartally, Drumnadrochit.

Other breed gimmers (247) averaged £102.65 and sold to £170 gross for a pen of Texel crosses from Smerral Farm, Bower.

Other breed correct ewes (170) averaged £87.40 and sold to £248 for a Texel from Barnyards, Beauly.

Other Breed Broken Mouth ewes (134) sold to £72 gross for a Texel cross from Upper Gartally, Drumnadrochit.

Other breed feeding ewes (71) sold to £120 gross for a pair of Texel crosses from Ballicherry Farm, Balblair.

Lambs (317) sold to £230 gross for a Cheviot ewe lamb from Fiddlefield, Muir of Ord.

Rams (34) sold to £320 gross for a Texel from Morvich Farm, Rogart.

Feeding sheep (33) sold to £96 gross for a Texel cross wedder from Bluebell Cottage, Fleuchary.
