A SUTHERLAND community is planning to mark the coronation of King Charles III and his wife Camilla in style.

It has been announced that a Coronation Picnic Party “full of games and fun” is to be held at Faskally Park, Brora, on the Monday bank holiday (May 8) following the coronation on Saturday, May 6.

A grand picnic is being planned at Brora on May 8 to mark the crowning of the new King and Queen.

The group organising the event is due to hold its first meeting on Wednesday at the village’s heritage centre when details are expected to be put in place.

And an open invitation has been extended to local groups and organisations to join in the picnic.

Brora Rotarian Alistair Risk, who is part of the organising group, said: “We are planning a grand picnic with people invited to bring their own sandwiches while we will provide the cake and the drinks.

“There will be music along with races and games for the children and perhaps even dancing, along with stalls and marquees."

Mr Risk said a major part of the celebration would be an exhibition in the heritage centre showing how Brora celebrated past coronations, from that of Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth II.

He continued: “Anyone keen to take part and have a stall or entertain should contact me by email: email@alistairrisk.me.uk”
