An image showing the joyful reaction of children in Africa after receiving gifts of vhs tape boxes stuffed full of stationery, has thrilled the Brora woman behind the donations.

The joy on the faces of these four young children is clear as they check out the study cases, sent out from Brora after being stuffed full of stationery.

Wendy Sutherland hit on the idea of recycling redundant video and cassette tape holders into pencil cases, which she and others stuffed full of paper, crayons, pencils, stickers and a small toy.

A total of 139 study cases, along with seven first aid kits and 10 hygiene kits were sent to the Amuka Foundation, a registered charity involved with the education and upskilling of young people in Kenya.

And now Foundation funder and president Ellie Bird has thanked Wendy and others who contributed to the project, for their support, which she said was making a real impact, both in the classroom and in the home.

Wendy said: "We are so grateful to everyone who donated to this vhs project. We were bowled over by the monetary contributions as well as people popping in bags of pencils and crayons.

"The towels that went with the hygiene kits were donated by Blythswood. The local community handed their VHS tapes into the Brora village hub and we also collected them from Blythswood.

"We couldn’t have made it happen with out the generosity of our community and we are so happy to hear that this VHS project is helping to make a difference."
