All the pieces are in place for a cracking Brora Carnival Week guaranteed to have the East Sutherland village buzzing.

There is just three weeks to go until events begin and a Royal party was picked last weekend to preside over the fun-filled festival.

Holly Preston was selected to be queen at a dance held in the marquee tent on the school field last Saturday.

The festival runs from Sunday to Saturday, July 23-29 and a packed programme of events and activities for the whole family to enjoy is being organised.

Set to be a thrilling sight for spectators is a soap box race at Coalpit Road Hill on Wednesday, July 26. Prizes will be awarded for “speed, creativity and showmanship”.

Organisers are promising an "afternoon filled with excitement, entertainment, and the best of craic". Teams are being encouraged to register now.

Much loved traditional events, such as the ever popular duck race are also being included in the programme.

A photography contest is currently running in conjunction with the carnival week with entries invited by Tuesday, July 25.

The contest has been split into four age categories – eight years and under; 9-12 years; 12-16 years and adults, and there are four classes – landscape, nature, something old and photographer’s choice.

Another event which residents can enter is Brora’s Best Garden contest which will be judged on Friday, July 28.
