Brora community Council has agreed to submit a Freedom of Information request to Highland Council asking for information on the amount of money it spends on employing outside “consultants”.

The Freedom of Information Act covers all recorded information held by a public authority. It is not limited to official documents and it covers, for example, drafts, emails, notes, recordings of telephone conversations and CCTV recordings.

Community council secretary Sandy Crawford was given the backing of fellow members to submit the request at the group’s meeting yesterday evening.

Mr Crawford told the meeting that the local authority already had a management structure and questioned why it was necessary to bring in outside help.

And he suggested that the money paid to consultants meant that less funding was available to repair the region’ road infrastructure.

He said: “If they have a management structure, then why do they need consultants?”

“The more money that is being paid to consultants, then the less money that is going on repairing roads”
