A high-powered top table delivered memorable toasts to an appreciative audience at Brora Scout and Guide Hall Group’s community Burns supper.

Master of ceremonies Dougie Burns presided over the event, adding injections of levity. Sandy Mellis, from the Elgin area, performed an accomplished address to the haggis, while Hugh Abrach Mackay (Dingwall) was fluent and knowledgeable with his immortal memory.

MP Jamie Stone treated his audience to some insider House of Commons anecdotes as he delivered the toast to the lasses, but he was outdone by local councillor Deirdre Mackay who in the response indulged in a flight of fancy as she turned Robert Burns into Roberta and imagined him living in Brora and interacting with villagers with many drunken japes.

Add in Golspie songstress Wendy Mackay singing acapella in addition to music from Hamish Polson and Ronnie Shaw, plus Old Pulteney Single Malt donated by Heartland Homes Services and it was a truly enjoyable night. The hall and tables were beautifully decorated, the supper excellent and the service seamless.
