'Brisk trade' at Caithness sheep sale

Quoybrae, Aberdeen and Northern Marts on Monday, February 27, sold 976 sheep.

Old season prime lambs (208) averaged 221.3p sold to 248.8p per kg for a pen of 42kg Texels from Myrelandhorn, Bower and £119.50 gross for a pen of 50kg Texels from Thorhaven, 27 River View.

Old season prime lambs SQQ up to 45.5kg (159) averaged 223.7p per kg.

Old season store lambs (416) averaged £73.37 sold to £115.50 for Beltexs from Inkstack Barrock.

Feeding ewes and rams (353) averaged £88.23 sold to £174.50 Texel Ewes from Stitley, Claredon and Mayfield, Thurso.

“Vendors were rewarded for well fleshed hoggs in the prime ring. A good show of store hoggs were presented exceeding sellers' expectations. An excellent show of ewes met a brisk trade.”
