The A9 has re-opened at Drumochter after a day of misery for drivers trapped in 20-mile tailbacks after snowfalls blocked the route.

BEAR Scotland confirmed that gritters that had worked for hours to clear the route had succeeded in re-opening it for motorists in both directions by just before 8pm.
