There was plenty of space for a big Christmas bash at the Bradbury Centre this Christmas - thanks to a new extension built earlier this year.

The well-regarded Bonar Bridge unit, which provides day care for the elderly in the area, underwent a £200,000 redevelopment in 2019.

Contractors worked for two months to extend a multi-purpose room and create a new dining space as well as a new office and toilet.

The unit operated from Invershin Hall while work was ongoing, but moved back into the centre in June.

And all the upheaval proved well worth it as the commodious new-look centre came into its own on December 18 when a total of 55 people sat down to a delicious Christmas lunch with all the trimmings.Afterwards everyone enjoyed a afternoon of fun and laughter with toe-tapping music from the Evergreen band and party games.

Centre manager Lorraine Askew said: “We all had a great time. The band was excellent. We also played bingo and every client went home with a hamper of food.”

The centre, which is now closed until January 6, is a registered charity run by a board of directors. Half its annual running costs are met by NHS Highland but the unit has to make up the shortfall.
