TWO Bonar Bridge kickboxers returned home triumphant from the recent ISKA (International Sport Kickboxing Association) Scottish Open Championships, held at Kelvin Hall Sports Centre, Glasgow.

Luke Murray who only took up the sport a year ago, is the new Iska Scottish champion in the -85kg, beginners, light contact class.

The 27-year-old also won gold in the adult team points competition, fighting alongside two Kaizen fighters from Elgin.

And Iain Campbell (20) won the silver medal in the -75kg beginners light contact category.

The two are members of the Highland Kickboxing Club and their performance has been praised by their instructor Chud Ridley.

Luke, who works at Migdale Smolts Ltd, fought three fights to get into the final. He now goes up to the intermediate category where the standard is higer.

Said Chud: "Luke had to dig very deep to overcome his opponent in the final. It was a close fight but he came out on top with a unanimous points decision.

"Iain fought two fights before he narrowly lost an exciting final over two rounds."

Anyone wishing to try competition fighting is invited to go along to Bonar Bridge Community Hall on Tuesday or Thursday evenings. Juniors 6-7pm; adults and sparring classes 7-9pm.
