A SUTHERLAND football club has gifted a full training kit to each of its junior footballers as a thank-you for their commitment to the sport.

Bonar Bridge Football Club was keen to mark the hard work put in by youngsters who turn up weekly for its training sessions.

Looking smart in their new training kit are junior footballers who attend Bonar Bridge Football Club's trianing sessions. The youngsters come from all over the area.

Chairman David Anderson said: "It has been a tough year for all of us, but the youngsters have handled it well. The committee decided that providing full training kits would be a special way to finish the 2020 training sessions.

"Parents regularly make donations to us, and its fantastic for the club to be able to show its appreciation in this manner.

"With juniors attending training from a variety of schools including, Bonar Bridge, Gledfield, Lairg, Rosehall and Dornoch, it is also a way for the club to support cohesion and team identity."

The club recently launched a fundraising drive towards an upgrade of its facilities and playing field area. It is hoped to renovate the dilapidated clubhouse, which dates back nearly 50 years. The programme of works includes replacing windows, shower facilities and flooring as well as upgrading the kitchen so it can be used for match days as well as for other events.

Local people were asked to write letters in support of the project, which could then be used to bolster funding applications.

Mr Anderson said: "We received more than 200 letters from people who think the club means something to the community, some from children as young as five, others from their grandparents, folk that enjoy watching the games and folk that remember playing in them.

"We'd like to send a message of thanks to all who took the time to support us."

An application to Beinn Tharsuinn Wind Farm Community Fund had been successful and the club is awaiting the outcome of other funding applications.
