Body of walker recovered following search

The body of a walker was found in north west Sutherland yesterday evening after a search was launched amid concern the person had failed to return to base.

Members of Assynt Mountain Rescue team took part in the operation along with the Stornoway based Coastguard helicopter and local estate workers.

A post on the rescue team’s Facebook page states: “We were called to assist in looking for an overdue walker in the Achfary area in Sutherland.

The walker was located by the Coastguard Stornoway helicopter, and Assynt MRT members and the estate assisted with the recovery.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this difficult time.”
