East Sutherland Rescue Association (ESRA) has received a welcome financial boost.

The independent lifesaving organisation, which receives no core funding and relies on donations, has been presented with £500.

The money was given by Eric De Venny, who runs the Eagle Hotel in Dornoch with his wife Suzanne and their team of staff.

Mr De Venny handed over a cheque to ESRA chairman Neil Dalton at the lifeboat station at Dornoch beach on Sunday, January 28.

ESRA spokesman Antony Hope said: “A big-hearted gesture of community support has come our way, thanks to the generosity and commitment of Eric De Venny and his incredible team at the Eagle Hotel.

“The generous donation of £500 to our cause comes from the sale of ESRA branded bottles of whisky, and shows a wonderful blend of community spirit and philanthropy.”

In February 1921 the Eagle Hotel was cited by the Brewing Good Cheer campaign as a “shining example” of a hostelry that “makes a difference and puts its community first.”
