Meanwhile, gala organisers have unveiled a packed programme for 2023 with fun for all the family.

Events kicked off on the Thursday night with a family style pub quiz in Bettyhill Hall.

On Friday there will be activities in the village hall from 10.30am to 5pm, including baking, flower arranging and photography competitions as well as a children’s scavenger hunt and arts and crafts.

Also on Friday are beach events with a sandcastle competition and face painting. Activities continue on Friday night with a car treasure hunt followed by a barbecue, bar and music at the school field.

A parade of floats, tractors, wheelbarrows and fancy dress is not to be missed on Saturday from 2pm and will be followed by the crowning of the gala queen at 2.30pm, events at the playing field, and a dog show. There will also be bouncy castles, stalls, refreshments and much more.

A dance at Bettyhill Village Hall from 9pm completes Saturday’s programme. The final day of the gala sees a sheep race at Achneiskich from 2pm, music by Colin Mcfeat at the school field from 3pm and a tug of war at 5pm. More details on the Bettyhill Gala Facebook page.
