Bettyhill Gala makes a welcome return in August and presiding over it as gala queen will be Murron Drennan (18).

Murron will be leading the parade, presenting prizes and helping judge the sandcastle competition as well as other duties.

The Farr High School leaver hopes to follow in her mother Lucy’s footsteps by initially becoming an ambulance technician before studying to be a paramedic.

As a first step she hopes to pass a C1 driving test this summer which would allow her to drive vehicles of ambulance size.

A talented musician, Murran plays the cello and whistle and performed with school music group Ar Fuaim.

She is hugely looking forward to the four-day gala, which begins on Thursday, August 4, with a family quiz in the public hall.

The hall remains the focus the following day with a plethora of competitions for all ages including baking, art, photography and flower arranging in the morning and teas all day.

A sandcastle competition will be held at Farr Beach on Friday afternoon.

Friday evening brings the car treasure hunt, finishing at Farr High School Park with a barbeque and bar.

Saturday’s sessions kick off with the annual parade with floats and fancy dress walkers. There is a family dance in the hall that evening.

Sunday brings an afternoon of team challenges, principally for adults, plus lots of tumbling opportunities for children to round the weekend off.
