Eden Court's chief executive has revealed more than 35,000 people attended this year's pantomime, Beauty and the Beast, over its month-long run.

That makes it the theatre's most successful pantomime to date.

Taking to Twitter James Mackenzie-Blackman said: "News just in. Beauty and the Beast was our most successful pantomime ever at Eden Court. A huge heartfelt thanks to the cast, crew and all our staff who worked tirelessly over the festive season but mostly to all 35,646 of you who joined us in the auditorium."

In December actress Karen Gillan also tweeted after seeing the show.

"Went to the Inverness Pantomime tonight at Eden Court. It was the best one I've ever seen!!!" she said.

"And hats off to those performers doing that twice a day.

"Everyone was brilliant. #beautyandthebeast #imsexyandiknowit."

The Jumanji star told her fans she was home in Inverness for Christmas, tweeting: "Reading bedtime stories to my friends' kids back home in Inverness is my favourite acting I’ve done in some time!

"Tough crowd. Think I won them over with my mouse squeak. #HomeForChristmas".

Beauty and the Beast finished its run on January 5 at Eden Court.
