Two talented local chefs are set to battle it out against the clock in a Ready Steady Cook style event in Sutherland next Thursday.

James McMahon from the Pier Cafe in Lairg and Graham Rooney from Platform 1864 in Tain will compete against each other to conjure up a three course meal from mystery ingredients. Compere for the evening will be Grant MacNicol, head chef at Dornoch Castle Hotel.

As the chefs go head to head in the kitchen, the audience will be invited to taste the dishes and then vote for their favourite using a red tomatoes or green pepper voting system.

Redy Steady Cook is part of a Carbon Savers - Train to Gain Project run by Lairg and District Learning Centre in partnership with Brora Learning Zone and Assynt leisure.

The event takes place in Lairg Community Centre from 7pm and entry is by donation.

Lairg Learning Centre manager Rhionna Mackay said: “Our previous Ready Steady Cook events have proved to be successful and were well attended. The audience had fun and loved taking part, especially when it came to tasting the delicious food!

“We are delighted to work with these talented young chefs and grateful to local businesses for their sponsorship of the event.”
