Assynt Highland Games volunteers 'desperately' needed

Assynt Highland Games committee says new members are "desperately" needed to keep the popular Games going.

The committee is holding a recruitment event next week in a bid to encourage people to join.

A spokesperson for the Games committee said: "Even if you don't want to be on the committee and attend meetings, there is still plenty you can do to help in the run-up to the Games.

"If you are interested please come along to our recruitment drop-in session."

Assynt Highland Games is held on the second Friday in August and will take place this year on August 9.

Last year's Games enjoyed good weather and were described as "one of the most entertaining and well attended to date" with spectators treated to a variety of entertainment and events.

Traditionally the Games chieftain arrives by boat.

The recruitment session will be held at Lochinver Village Hall on Wednesday, January 17, from 6pm-8pm.Tea and coffee will be provided.
