The Assynt Foundation has hinted that it may have some good news to announce in 2024.

A community-run charity, the foundation manages the estates of Glencanisp and Drumrunie, including the iconic mountain Suilven. It also owns Glencanisp Lodge.

In a social media post, the foundation’s managers said: “We have been working hard in the background, laying the foundations for a couple of big projects that will help us really make the most of the Glencanisp and Drumrunie estates and the facilities around the lodge.

“Fingers crossed that we can bring you some positive announcements in 2024 as things come to fruition.”

The organisation said the past year had been “quite significant” for the foundation.

“As an organisation that relies on volunteers, managing 44,000 acres of land is no small task,” reads the post. “This is particularly true with the storms we’ve all experienced over the past year.

“Even so, we’ve seen some great work being done through the Peatland Restoration Project on Cul Mor.

“We’ve also seen the start of the refurbishment along the access track to the lodge, which we look forward to seeing progress on in the New Year.”
