Police had shut the Ullapool road at Garve on October 21, 2023 but 36 year old Michael Campbell of Baldounie Bridge, Ardgay, ignored the instruction and continued his journey.

Fiscal depute Victoria Silver told Inverness Sheriff Court: "He was stopped and asked by an officer why he had done so. They could smell cannabis in the car and a test proved positive for cannabis."

Campbell admitted having 7mcgs of the drug in his system when the safe limit is 2mcgs.

He said he had let his dog out of the car and had some cannabis before getting back behind the wheel.

"I was stopped about three corners further on." he said.

Sheriff Gary Aitken also fined Campbell £640.
