The Scottish Government has introduced legislation which requires local authorities to establish a licensing scheme for short term lets. The legislation was brought in by the Scottish Government to ensure short term lets are safe, to address issues faced by neighbours, and to help local authorities understand what is happening in their area.

The legislation aims to balance economic and tourism benefits with the needs and concerns of local communities.

Applicants are advised to make sure they have read the information and guidance on the website, including the privacy notice, before making an application.

Those applying will receive an acknowledgement email when their application has been submitted.

As part of the application process, there is a statutory 28 day period for consultation with external and internal agencies and for any public objections.

A council spokesman said: “We are anticipating a large volume of applications. However, we will endeavour to process applications as quickly as possible.”
