A cat believed to be a 'stowaway' on a delivery to a village in Caithness is at the centre of an online appeal to reunite it with its owners.

The tabby, believed to be a pet, turned up at a house belonging to a couple in Gersa, Watten, shortly after a van had delivered a parcel to their address.

It is believed that the cat may have been trapped inside the van and made a quick escape when the delivery was being made.

The local Cat Protection team are now appealing to members of the public who may recognise the cat.

Jenny from the Caithness branch said: "The very lovely lady who was caring for her took her to the vet to find out if she was microchipped, but unfortunately she wasn't. But she is a very sweet, affectionate puss who has been a pet at some point."

But with little to go on, it is impossible to say exactly where the kitty may have travelled from.

The adoption team leader said: "Unfortunately, the couple didn't see which company delivered the package and the cat is not microchipped.

"She is coming into our care today and hopefully her owner will come forward."

People with information that may help reunite the cat with its owners are encouraged to contact the Cat Protection team on 0345 371 4217.

Cats who are not reunited with their owners are eventually rehomed in accordance with the rescue team's guidelines.
