Sutherland Bowling Association held their County Singles competition at Golspie green earlier this week, with eight bowlers taking part.

Four members took part from Dornoch, along with two from Brora and another two from Golspie.

In the all-Dornoch quarter-final, John Bonthrone advanced to the semi-final with a win over Stuart Petrie.

The other matches in the opening round saw Raymond Bremner (Dornoch) beat Mark Tunstall (Brora), while Angus Mackenzie (Brora) won through against Donnie Macneill (Dornoch) and in the all-Golspie game, Campbell Murray beat Mike Hope.

In the semi-final, the finalists were decided after Murray beat Bremner 21–2 and Mackenzie overcame Bonthrone 21–5.

In the final, Angus Mackenzie got a grip of the rink quicker to go on to lift the trophy, beating Campbell Murray by 21 to 3.

The association offered their thanks to the Golspie club and to the Dornoch ladies for providing soup and sandwiches.
