Mr Graham-Stewart is being replaced by Rachel Mulrenan, who was appointed as deputy director last April. She took up the post on January 1.

"Rachel is well qualified with a wealth of campaigning experience," said Mr Graham-Stewart.

"She shares my and WildFish's determination, and aims to ensure, without fear or favour, that wild salmon and sea trout, and the ecosystems in Scotland on which they depend are given the protections they need.

Mr Graham-Stewart will continue to be involved in WildFish Scotland as a consultant and advisor.
