All Highland schools will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday
Highland Council has confirmed all its schools will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday due to industrial action.
It comes despite the Scottish Secondary Teachers Association (SSTA) agreeing to defer strike action on Tuesday and Wednesday after a consultation with its members showed a small majority would vote in favour of the Scottish Government’s new pay deal.
A council spokeswoman said: "The Highland Council is aware of recent developments at a national level for the upcoming strike action by some teaching unions. However, we continue to anticipate significantly reduced numbers of both management and teaching staffing in schools and early learning and childcare (ELC) settings, therefore the decision to close all educational establishments to pupils remains.
"All schools and ELC settings on Tuesday and Wednesday will be closed to pupils across Highland on these dates.
"A BACS payment will be made for those children and young people entitled to a free school meal based on low income (not universal entitlement).
"If there are any further developments at a national level, and if strike action is averted in schools, this will be notified through the council website www.highland.gov.uk and through our social media, as well as usual school communication channels."
