After the snow - a Yellow warning for strong winds on Sunday

Strong winds are expected to develop widely across the UK on Sunday throughout the whole day persisting into early Monday across parts of England and Wales.

Within the warning area, many places are likely to see south-westerly winds gust to around 50-60 mph and gusts may reach 60-70 mph for exposed locations (e.g. coasts).

There remains a chance of stronger winds impacting parts of this area for a time but this aspect remains uncertain with further updates to the warning to be expected over the coming days.

Wintry showers will continue on Friday, some of these showers becoming quite prolonged.

Further accumulations of up to 5cm are possible on low ground at first, and 10 to 20cm possible on ground above 300 metres where fresh snow will be drifting in windy conditions.

Snow will become increasingly confined to ground above 300 metres by the end of the morning.

Ice will be an additional hazard as snow showers turn to rain at lower levels through the morning.
