Achiltibuie art auction was a “resounding success” with over £20,000 raised after the tireless efforts from volunteers.

Coigach Heritage held an online and in-person art auction in a bid to raise funds for a new art installation in the area, titled Lorg Na Còigich. It will commemorate the Achiltibuie rebels of the 1850s who refused to be removed from their land – a rebellion largely led by women – who are set to be remembered in a new landmark in Acheninver.

The auction, which concluded on April 27, featured “stunning artwork” from “internationally acclaimed” artists, with almost 100 pieces donated for bidding.

Organisers of the event, Coigach Heritage said: “As you can see, last weekend's fundraising events for the Lorg na Còigich project were a resounding success - over £20,000 has been raised. The wonderful evening of conversation between Sally Magnusson and Shona MacLean on Saturday night was followed on Sunday by the culmination of an exciting art auction; bids were still coming in at the 4pm deadline both online and in-person. Thank you again to all who came along to the events.

“The success of the art auction would not have been possible without the support of the members of the local art community who generously donated almost 100 artworks; the successful bidders and, of course, those who were sadly unsuccessful but made the bidding hotly contested.

“Thanks are also due to the army of volunteers who set up and dismantled the exhibition like a well-oiled machine, and the ladies in the kitchen who kept up a never-ending supply of refreshments to all who came along.”
